The Université de La Réunion was founded in 1982. It has grown steadily over the years, in terms of student population, geographical sites occupied, courses offered and partnerships forged with local, national and international institutions. The need to establish itself in new locations and create links with other institutions reflects a strong ambition: to be the benchmark university in the Indian Ocean region.

As multidisciplinary training establishment and true pillar of the local training and research ecosystem, the Université de La Réunion welcomes more than 19,000 students per year.

The Université de La Réunion occupies a unique place: it is the only Reunion university in Indianoceania. This positioning at the heart of the Africa-Asia axis gives it a major role as ambassador of French Higher Education, Research and Innovation in the area.
