The purpose of the course “Linguistic Features of Media Communication” is to introduce to leading communication strategies and interactive methods of creative communication activities that must be used in media discourse when creating media and communication products that are in demand by society and industry. Particular attention is paid to the linguoecology of media discourse, the culture of speech of journalists, as well as the role of media discourse in the harmonization of mass and interpersonal communication. Students can use the acquired knowledge to competently develop discursive strategies aimed at successful communication, neutralizing conflicting speech situations, caring for their native culture and native language.

The course “Media Production Technologies” is devoted to the basics of the processes of preparation and production of various types of media products: printed publications, television and radio programs, Internet media – and accordingly consists of several parts. The lectures cover the basic technologies of pre-press, plate, printing and post-press processes, knowledge of which allows one to achieve optimal quality of printed products; evolution of television and radio technologies from the moment of invention to the current state

The discipline “Modern Society and Geopolitics” is a course focused on studying and deepening students’ knowledge about patterns functioning of journalism in the modern world. The goal of the discipline “Modern Society and Geopolitics” is formation of student knowledge about the features and patterns of development of societies in different regions of the world, key political processes at the international level.

The purpose of teaching the discipline “Russian media system” is to give students a general understanding of the modern Russian media system, the features of national models of media systems, the factors of their formation, the basic principles of construction, management, organization and self-organization, as well as the structuring, functioning and development of the largest segments of the media system and their interaction.

The purpose of the discipline “Theories and Research of Mass Communication” is to obtain fundamental knowledge in the field of media research, mastery of existing theoretical concepts and methods for studying and modeling various aspects of the functioning of modern media institutions, mastery of the methodology, program and forms of organization of scientific and applied research in journalism and mass communication.

The purpose of the discipline is to introduce students to the modern culture of Russia in its various manifestations and forms, starting with language and communication, give general ideas about the interaction between the individual and society, including gender relations, parents and children, family status, upbringing, education and science, moral norms and rules of communication, the current state of religion, literature, arts, games and sports.

Each year faculty invites 15-20 influential media scholars from all around the world coming at the Faculty of Journalism as lecturers. The goals of the discipline are formation of the student’s ideas about the current state of theoretical views on the media, knowledge of global and domestic current, innovative approaches to considering mass media – theories, concepts, use of practical expert experience. The course is expected to be taught in a foreign language (English) with the involvement of world-class experts, which will allow the integration of knowledge, acquired by students, into a global academic and professional context.

The lecture course covers the basic principles of digital security and information protection. Legislative acts related to information security issues are considered. Key concepts are analyzed: information from the point of view of the subject of information protection, the main categories that information must satisfy are determined; attack on information, the main types of attacks and their consequences are considered; information system, information network, the main types of digital threats and methods of protection are considered. During the classes, students gain an understanding of the current issues of digital security faced by producers and consumers of media content, and users of digital services. Considering specific examples helps prepare students for existing digital threats.

The goals of the academic discipline “Editorial Management” are developing students’ understanding of the specifics and mechanisms of management editorial team in modern conditions. Students will receive a complex information about the theoretical foundations of mass media management, and also master practical techniques to improve operational efficiency editorial offices in the digital environment

The goals of the course “Intercultural Communication” are to acquire knowledge of the main stages of the development of civilization and ideas about various cultures, about the process of forming cultural traditions, values and norms, methods of effective intercultural communication; formation of abilities to use received knowledge for developing one’s cultural potential and solving professional problems journalistic activities in modern media.
